Are dental x-rays safe?

Dental x-rays have been used safely for many years. You are constantly exposed to some level of radiation, whether it’s the sun, minerals contained in soil, or even your microwave and refrigerator.

We stay up-to-date on the latest dental treatment techniques and use the most advanced technology. We are dedicated to providing the safest, most convenient options possible, so we use advanced digital x-ray technology at our Eynon dental office. Digital x-rays, also referred to as digital radiographs, give us a detailed image of your teeth that will help us guide you in making important decisions about your dental care. Digital x-rays also reduce your exposure, eliminate the need for traditional films, and are safer for the environment.

How often we need to take digital x-rays depends on your current condition and dental history. For some patients, it’s necessary to take digital x-rays every six months. Others who have no history of problems like decay or gum disease and who see us regularly may only require x-rays every couple years. As a new patient, we may take digital x-rays as part of your first exam to establish a baseline so we can monitor changes to your oral health.

Your safety and comfort is very important to us. We take all the necessary precautions to minimize your exposure by using lead aprons and modern, fast film. You are always welcome to talk to us about your concerns, so please contact us if you have questions or would like to schedule your next dental exam and cleaning.
