At what age should my child first visit the dentist?
We recommend that you bring your child to see us starting around the age of six months, or when their baby teeth begin to emerge. At this stage, we do very little in the way of actual treatment because we want your child to get comfortable with us.
During the first few visits at this early age, our goal is to help your child develop a positive attitude about dental care. Unless he or she is developing signs of a serious dental problem, the extent of work we do depends on how accepting they are. While dental care is obviously important, it is essential that we do everything to make every experience comfortable for them.
It is vital that we monitor the health of your child’s baby teeth because they act as building blocks for proper development of permanent teeth. If a child develops a cavity, we need to fill it as soon as possible. Losing even one baby tooth too early can result in problems as permanent teeth emerge and potentially lead to misalignment or other issues.
At the office of Dr. Joseph W. Arcadipane, DMD, we love working with kids and helping them develop good oral health habits. Our team knows that each child has a unique personality, and we treat them accordingly. You can always be confident that your little one is receiving the highest quality dental care in a safe, friendly environment.
Please contact our office, and we’ll be happy to help you arrange your child’s first visit.
