Dental Sealants

The two most critical components of preventive care are regular exams with Dr. Joe Arcadipane and dental cleanings with our hygienist. When paired with other preventive treatments like dental sealants, these services are the best defense we have against the onset of serious oral health problems like periodontal disease.

Treatment That Promotes Total Wellness

We now know that maintaining good oral health is more important than ever for promoting overall health and well-being. There is scientific evidence that suggests a definite connection between the health of your mouth and your total wellness, and this connection is known as the oral-systemic link. Preventing and controlling cavities and periodontal disease is vitally important as we learn more about the effects it has on your body.

Recent studies have looked at the link between chronic oral disease and an increased risk for developing heart disease, respiratory disorders, stroke, and other serious health problems. Our preventive treatments are designed to enhance your overall and oral wellness and leave your smile healthier than when we started.

Application of Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are a thin coating that we apply to chewing surfaces of the back teeth, which are the most difficult to clean. Sealants act as a protective layer that prevents decay by “sealing out” plaque and food. We highly recommend sealants for children, but we may also suggest sealants for adults on healthy teeth that are at high risk for decay.

Permanent first and second molars particularly benefit from the application of dental sealants. We highly recommend sealants for children at age 6, when their first molars usually appear, and at age 12, when their second molars come in. Sealants can also be used on baby teeth if your dentist finds that your child is at high risk for developing cavities.

The decision to place dental sealants is based on you or your child’s oral health risk factors and the presence of disease. First and second permanent molars are a high priority because they’re more susceptible to decay.

Primary, or baby, molars and bicuspids are less prone to decay, making them a lower priority for placement of sealants. Many insurance companies cover the cost of sealants, so please contact our office if you would like more information.

Protect Your Family’s Oral Health

Preventive treatments like sealants are essential for protecting and preserving your family’s oral health. We strongly encourage all our patients to be diligent about maintaining routine appointments for cleanings and exams. This is the best way we know to stay one step ahead of serious dental problems.

We want to make it as easy as possible for you and your family to get the care you need, and our team is dedicated to providing preventive treatments with gentle care in a friendly environment. Please contact our Eynon dental office to make your next appointment for a dental cleaning and exam.
