Dental Exams & Digital X-Rays

According to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), over 20 percent of adults and children have untreated cavities. This is a pretty sobering statistic when you consider that tooth decay is largely preventable with regular x-rays, exams, and dental cleanings.

Basic diagnostic services like digital x-rays and exams at our Eynon dental office are the foundation for maintaining your family’s excellent oral health. Both allow us to monitor the condition of your teeth so that we can correct problems before they become serious and costly to fix. While it’s impossible to say that you’ll never experience a problem, the likelihood of enjoying excellent dental health increases significantly when you follow this simple routine.

Routine Dental Exams

For most patients, we agree with the recommendation of The American Dental Association to schedule twice-yearly exams for maintaining healthy teeth. During regular dental exams, we will check your teeth carefully to detect any problems that you may not be aware of.

At this time, we will also make a note of any changes to your mouth since your last check-up. This is also a good time to talk to us about any concerns or questions and to tell us about problems you may be having. Based on the information we gather during the exam, we can make recommendations and develop a comprehensive treatment plan.

Remember that it’s also essential for your children to have regular dental exams because it’s the best way to make sure that their teeth stay strong and healthy. We recommend that you bring your child for their first “happy visit” around six months of age or when baby teeth start to emerge. This allows us to begin to establish a rapport with your child and look for potential problems.

Diagnostic Digital X-Rays

We use digital x-rays, also referred to as digital radiographs, which are among the most important diagnostic tools we have. Digital radiographs expose you to significantly less radiation than traditional film x-rays. They give us a clear picture of your teeth, supporting bones, and soft tissue. and show us cavities long before they’re visible to the naked eye during an exam. Using digital x-rays, we can also detect signs of bone loss that may indicate severe periodontal disease.

If you are a new patient, Dr. Joe may recommend a full set of x-rays, which includes all your teeth. Subsequently, we will take bitewing x-rays (upper and lower back teeth) once a year to check for signs of cavities or other problems.

Friendly Family Care

We take pride in the long-lasting relationships we have developed with our patients by delivering consistent, high-quality oral health care. We go out of our way to help you feel like a welcome member of our family because we know that is what we would expect for ourselves.

We’re committed to helping you and your family stay informed about the importance of these basic services. Our team is here to support you in your goal of achieving outstanding oral health, but ultimately, the choice to maintain routine dental visits is yours.
